I think I'm going to make a trip down to the Apple Store today and see if they can replace it.

It sounds like something is wrong with your USB ports in your computer. You should try to contact manufacturer and get them fixed. However the restore will not fix your speaker because it is a hardware problem not a Firmware or software problem. I think you should take you phone to Apple and see what they can do for you. Good luck

I also believe the new iTunes will add the ability to rip your DVDs, kind of like a Handbrake/Telestream's Drive-In.
It would be nice, but it's illegal in the US. You can't remove copy protection from something that has it, no matter the purpose of the action. So, not gonna happen. Also, there'd be no reason to get companies, like Fox, to include iPod ready copies of their content on DVDs as seem to be happening now.
I think they'll keep iTunes, but the official name will be changed to iTunes Media Store rather than iTune Music Store, if it's not already.

I'm going to stop by at around 7am tomorrow morning on the way to work. I have to be at work at 8 so if the queue isn't too crazy I'll stick around, otherwise I'll go back later.

3D can be done with two images shot at the same time (or in close succession) with the camera moved laterally to slightly change the perspective. To view with colored glasses, turn one image red/black and the other blue/black and overlay. Put on the glasses and you should have something 3Dish. I am sure there are other ways to do this as well.

no u200 love :(
Yeah, I guess the $125+ each month I pay is not good enough for this service. Come on!! :(
I do like U-Verse a lot, though. Better than any cable in my area and fast internet too. Wish I'd get a break for having 2 iPhones and the U-Verse service...

After 10 weeks underground, the rescued Chilean miners are now free to contemplate a journey that must once have appeared unlikely to a week's all expenses paid holiday in the Greek islands.
Elmin, a Greek mining company, has shown its solidarity with the 33 men by offering to fly each of them and a companion to its country.
"We want them to relax on our beaches with the sun and our sea," wrote Liberis Polixronopulos, an executive at the firm.
The trip includes a stop in Madrid to watch a Real Madrid game, then a trip to England, where they will see Manchester United play. Football clubs around the world have sent signed shirts, while the Chilean football players' association has offered a trip to South Korea.
The men will also each be given a free iPod, apparently sent by Steve Jobs himself. Chilean officials withheld the iPods before the rescue, concerned that the men might use music to isolate themselves from their fellow miners.

No, I don't know what models they were. :D
Anyway, more or less an open thread about all things to do with the Chilean miner rescue. Another random news snippet:
Carlos Mamani, the Bolivian miner, now freed is going to have his favourite dish prepared by his family: caldo de cardan (bull penis soup). Delicious.

300 for a Pismo is great shape is quite normal. You can regularly buy a Sawtooth G4 tower or Gigabit ethernet for under 100 on ebay or craigslist and they are more powerful than a Pismo. The price of a portability = slower hardware for more money. Keep in mind also that the Pismo is one of the most sought after PowerBook's ever. Right up there with the 12" Aluminum PB.
The scariest overprice I have seen was a never opened G4 Quicksilver tower that they were asking 1600 for. Even never being opened makes it worth 300-400 tops.
Speaking of stuff for sale I have a few random parts for sale mostly for PowerPC if anyone is interested.

I have been wanting to get an HD for scratch disks and to edit directly onto the external HD in Final Cut.
Due to my lack of experience with external HD'S, I went ahead and bought a 1TB USB 3.0 Western Digital passport drive.. but I just found out about Firewire 800 that is seemingly faster and better for constant transfer (which I believe video editing falls under).
I'm just wondering how significant the difference is? Afaik, right now the biggest Firewire 800 drive available (that runs power off source and not outlet) is the Western Digital 640GB, and it costs around $40 more than the 1TB USB 3.0 passport.
Is it worth the upgrade if size/cost isn't an issue? I could always get a bigger USB3.0 drive for storage, and then use the FW800 drive for editing, but don't really want to make the plunge unless the speeds are considerably faster/noticeable. Any insight would be lovely.
Thanks!

If it is a concern, iMac handles games well too, but I would also suggest getting a PC for gaming if iMac is out of your range.

I have tried hundreds of times to get my Ipod touch into DFU mode, however it isn't working. I've even used the exact timers. I have the 3rd gen model (32 gig). I'm currently running Ios 4.1. Therefore i cannot use jailbreakme. So since i can't enter DFU mode i have no way of jailbreaking my device. Is there a computer program that can boot your device into DFU mode for you? if not then i guess im just out of luck.

You should! It's gorgeous and so is the drive to get there. I got a bit sentimental at that particular photo. I drove all over that state with e.
Key West is awesome! The drive there is long but wonderful.

Apparently evidence is pointing to the bus NOT being clipped by the truck ... and conflicting eyewitness accounts to what the bus driver is saying.
Looking more like the Bus Driver may be at fault ...

If any only if you feel like trying a grand experiment (nothing harmful, just complicated till you do it once), try THIS (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=805573&highlight=mac+automator). They're automator (think script) functions that control ripping and converting of DVDs to avoid user interaction.
I've been using them to bulk-convert my DVD library. Once the initial setup is done (~20 minutes to install all the software), you just insert a DVD. The script will detect this, and ask whether it's a TV show or a Movie. You'll then be asked the title (95% of the time, this will be prefilled from the DVD volume name, but not always), and then it will rip the disk to your hard drive.
Then later, and you can have ripped anywhere from 1-100 disks to your drive, you start another automator function that uses the command-line version of Handbrake (no user input necessary for this, and it's faster than the GUI) to convert the ripped disks to a format that iTunes/iOS likes. (h264 MKVs). Also supports BlueRay burning if you want to make this a substantial investment, but I'd start small ;)
The end result to this are MKV video files that are a very reasonable size (~1.2GB if SD, ~1.7 if HD) that include subtitles, iTunes tags, as well as poster art for the Cover Flow file browser.
I'd be happy to help you implement this (I can Teamviewer into your machine to help you setup). No other reason than it's an excellent solution that will help you to convert your life away from physical media. (No charge lol). After the initial setup is done for the scripts (majority of it is just downloading the needed 'helper' applications), it's simple and quick. <<That offer is open to anyone, btw.

I purchased the peachpit press books intending to do the Apple Certified System Administrator (ACSA 10.6) exams but havent had time to do so until now. From what iv'e read about discontinuing of xserve and apple looking to move away from this area is it really worth my time and money doing this certification anymore? I want some apple certification to my name. Im wondering if I should just do the Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) 10.6. its only one exam as opposed to four. Any advice would be appreciated thanks

Not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum, but I just thought I'd share my multiple experiences with the Chicago Lincoln Park Apple store. When they first opened I went in to check out the Mac Pro since I was planning on getting one soon. I asked where they were and the guy pointed me to his table of MacBook Pros. I said no the desktop and he pointed me to iMacs and said there was a Mac Mini hooked up to the Tv. I let that slide and just walked around the store. I went again two months later. Same scenario, this time I got a lady that pointed to the MacBook Pros again.
Yesterday I went in asking for an iPad 2 dock and the guy gave me an iPad dock. I explained to him that it does fit the iPad 2 but very uncomfortably so I wanted the second generation dock. He then told me that this was it and that Apple wasn't making a second generation dock for the iPad 2...
Who hires these people?!?!
